On our second stay in Punta Arenas after returning from Torres del Paine, Mark and I stayed in Hotel Hain. This hotel featured beautiful wooden paneling, Selk’nam decorations, and used to be one of the infamous Gentleman’s Clubs in the region back in the day. Here’s how Hotel Hain ranked in our books:

Private Room:

Our private room had a large bed with a closet, table and TV, and a private bathroom. When we first checked-in we noticed that the window had a large crack between it and the window pane, letting in a lot of cold air. So Mark asked the receptionist for tape and he taped it up the best to block the cold. Some nights we were cold, other nights were warmer in our room. We noticed when there was a large group at the hostel that it would get warmer. Overall, the room was comfortable.

Amenities:

We had a private bathroom that sometimes offered hot showers. It was always a hit or miss whether we’d get hot water or not. The WiFi worked great in our bedroom and in the cafe lounge. The kitchen was open for guests to cook their own food so we took advantage of that. Our booking also came with free breakfast, which included cereal, yogurt, rolls, sweet bread, ham and cheese, juice, coffee and tea. We really liked the cafe lounge as it was spacious and had large windows looking out to the street and the Strait of Magellan in the distance.

Pricing:

We paid $33/night for a private room, which was a good price for the area.

Location:

Hotel Hain was across the street from a park and Hindu Temple. It was also just two blocks away from the waterfront of the Strait of Magellan. A few more blocks away was a grocery store. It was about a 10-minute walk to get to the downtown square.
