I spent two nights in Venice with my sister, Alexa, in June 2022, and surprisingly found that the food scene was amazing in the city. We enjoyed a variety of eateries from cheap “Chip Hot Dogs” to fine dining with “Mama Spaghetti” sitting outdoors along one of the iconic canals of Venice. Some places we found out about through some research online, while others were pleasant surprises we found along with the way. Below are our six places to eat in Venice.

1. Bacaro al Ravano: Order the Cicchetti

Alexa found on TikTok that many people were raving about the cicchetti in Venice. Cicchetti are considered small snacks or side dishes that are typically served in a bacari, which are ancient Venetian taverns. So we made sure to keep our eyes out for cicchetti as we roamed the city’s alleyways. Finally, Bacaro al Ravano caught our eye with cicchetti featured in their glass display case. We ordered three different types of cicchetti, although we were not 100% of what we ordered. It was all delicious though! Not pictured are the Orange Fantas that were also delicious on the hot day we were there. Find Bacaro al Ravano on Google Maps.

2. L’Osteria Le Guglie: Order the Mama Spaghetti and Aperol Spritz

Look at this view! This was our table at the L’Osteria Le Guglie as we waited for our order. I treated myself to an Aperol Spritz, a classic drink to have in Venice, and enjoyed the stunning scenery around us. We both ordered the Mama Spaghetti, which I almost hesitated on because spaghetti sounds so typical to order in Italy, but this one sounded a little more special than the normal so I went with it. I can’t describe how amazing this dish was. We both agreed it was the best spaghetti we’ve ever had in our whole lives. We tried to find Mama Spaghetti later on in our travels in Italy and were disappointed it didn’t match up to L’Osteria Le Guglie’s spaghetti. We were so busy eating the spaghetti that we forgot to take a photo of it. Great food, great drinks and great views. Can’t go wrong here. Find L’Osteria Le Guglie on Google Maps.

3. Chips Amsterdam: Order the Chips Hot Dog

Alexa found this little gem–Chips Amsterdam. Look at this hot dog!! It has a fried potato ring around it! This was not the type of food I was expecting to find in Italy, but it was sure tasty. Order this with a side of fries for a quick and easy meal while exploring Venice. It’s also close to the famous Rialto Bridge so you can easily get to Chips Amsterdam on your way to the bridge. Find Chips Amsterdam on Google Maps.

4. Crepes House by Pepe: Order the Savory Crepe

Crepes House by Pepe was just a few blocks from hotel, which was next to the Venice train station. We looked them up online as we were trying to find a place to eat that wasn’t too far from us at the hotel. This is a small eatery that you walk into to order from a huge selection of savory and sweet crepes. All the savory crepes sounded so scrumptious with a lot of healthy fillings. The crepe I ordered was filled with deli turkey, avocado, arugula, tomato, red lettuce, and more. It was so good! The people working there were also so friendly! Highly recommend eating here for a quick-yet-delicious crepe on the go. Find Crepes House by Pepe on Google Maps.

5. Antico Forno: Order the Thick-Crust Pizza

Ok, I have to admit that I didn’t get to eat here at Antico Forno, but I passed their restaurant many times and snapped a photo because their pizza displays always looked so amazing. I just never happened to pass by at a good meal time for me. These pizzas looked divine though and if you look up Antico Forno on Google, you’ll see they have a ton of high reviews. So don’t miss out like I did and be sure to make time for Antico Forno. Find Antico Forno on Google Maps.

6. Macaron al gelato: Order Gelato in a Cone

Look at this amazing gelato cone! They automatically put it into a rose shape, which I haven’t seen any other gelato shop do. I ordered the cantaloupe and basil lime gelato and it was so refreshing and delicious. It feels like there are gelato shops left and right in every Venice alleyway so it was kind of hard to decide which gelato shops to try out. I was unsure about Macaron al gelato at first because it was a bigger gelato shop that looked more like a chain. However, we noticed their gelato were covered with metal lids, which Alexa said she heard meant it was better gelato as compared to gelato shops that had overfilled metal bins of gelato. She was right! The quality of their gelato and careful scooping of the gelato into a piece of artwork was super impressive. I’d definitely go there again for my gelato. Find Macaron al gelato on Google Maps.
