On our first visit to Cambodia, we followed the well-worn tourist track starting from the temples of Angkor outside Siem Reap. Making the most of a seven-day pass, we rode tuk tuks and bicycles and wandered miles on foot to admire the stunning sights of Angkor Wat, Ta Prohm, the Bayon and many more ruined temples — all slowly being reclaimed by the jungle. We then moved south to the capital of Phnom Penh, where we explored the darker side of the country’s history with stops at the Killing Fields and Toul Sleng Prison. Both were heartbreaking visits for a tourist, but so important for all to see. Hopefully next time we can afford to travel further afield and see far more of Cambodia!
