With names like Double Decker, Twirl and Crunchie, it was understandable why my husband was drawn in. The neon colors and gold foil reflected in his eyes as he stared at the selection to decide which one would be his. This was all Mark ever dreamed of as a young man. Now that he returned to the United Kingdom, his pent up passion for British candy returned with a vengeance.

Imagine his shock when he moved to the United States at 12 years old and could only find boring flavors of chips, and had to eat Hershey’s chocolate instead of Cadbury’s. Dreaming of British candies, he avoided most candy bars and sweets while living in the states. This void in Mark’s life caused a case of overindulgence when we visited the United Kingdom.

As soon as we flew into London Gatwick we bought four candy bars before even leaving the airport. It was a shock to see my husband, a health nut back home, indulge in all the sweets a 12 year old would eat. Making up for lost time as a youth, it was apparent that Mark developed a sugar addiction during our 25-day stay in the U.K. This is what he had in that short time:

10 bags of crisps (Skips, Bacon Streaks, Wotsits, Monster Munch, Hula Hoops, Haggis Flavored)

5 Ribenas

2 Toffee Crisps

5 Crunchies

1.5 Flakes

4 packs of Wine Gums

2 packs of Fruit Pastilles

2 packs of Orange Digestives

2 bags of Jelly Babies

3 Twirls

1 Double Decker

4 Gold Bars

2 IrnBrus

1 Lion Bar

If what he ate in the U.K. wasn’t enough, Mark also stocked on £20 worth of sweets before we left the country to keep him fueled for the trip. For once, it was rewarding to be the one in our relationship teasing Mark for eating sweets instead of the other way around.

Here are some of the culprits he took with him that his teeth (and dentist) will have to deal with when we return:

7 BAGS OF HULA HOOPS

British Candy

1 YORKIE

British Candy

2 PACKS OF ORANGE CHOCOLATE DIGESTIVES

British Candy

8 PACKS OF FRUIT PASTILLES

2 PACKS OF WINE GUMS

1 CRUNCHIE

1 SMARTIES & 1 MONSTER MUNCH
