Images from our first stop along the Trans-Mongolian Railway in eastern Russia– Irkutsk and Lake Baikal. After one night in the city, we spent three nights on Olkhon Island; if it looks like we sat around in the same place that entire time, that’s because we did. And it was wonderful. Warm sun, a beautiful beach, hearty Russian food made by our resident cook Olga and plenty of rest. Photos taken with a Canon 5D Mark III. Looks like you’ve been seeing some wonderful sights Mark Johnston July 27 Thanks Catherine! The Trans-Mongolian has been a heck of a journey and we’re thrilled to be getting close to Moscow. Steffen June 2 Hi Mark Great photos, and nice blog! I’m planning my own RTW trip at the moment, and I’m trying to figure out, if I should stay 3 or 4 days on Olkhon Island. Seems like a great place to relax Thanks for the inspiration! Kind regards Steffen Steffen recently posted…Hello world! Mark Johnston June 2 Hey Steffen, good to hear you’re on your way! Olkhon Island was a great place to relax and we had great weather for it, (so I guess it depends on what time of year you’re there). I think three days would be sufficient, but realize that it takes quite a drive by minibus to get out there so make sure your stay is worth the journey. There are tours to take but I’m not sure how exciting they are. We chose to lounge on the shore all of our time there as we were in desperate need of a rest after a month moving through China. Good luck!
