We chose to spend a night at Wayfarers Hostel in Penrith before heading to the Lake District. When we first arrived we didn’t realize that staff weren’t around in the early afternoon. There was a sign posted that said check-in began at 4 p.m. Since we arrived at 3 p.m. we had about an hour of waiting. The sign also posted a phone number to call if checking in early, but unfortunately we didn’t have a phone on us.

When the staff arrived and let us into our room, we knew it was worth the wait as soon as we entered! This was one of the most comfortable stays we’ve had, and made us wish we could’ve stayed longer. The inn had a quiet atmosphere and friendly staff. They also helped us figure out how to get to the Lake District and even offered us a ride to the bus stop.

Private Room:

The private room had two twin beds and beautiful, large bay windows. The room was spotless with plenty of room to put our bags and lounge around. Our room had a private bathroom that was also spacious and clean.

Amenities:

The inn had a modern self-catering kitchen with a stovetop, many cooking utensils, and a large fridge. In the mornings they offer free toast, coffee and tea. There is also a lounge area in the front lobby with books and board games on the bookshelves. Good WiFi was throughout the building including in our room.

Pricing:

We paid £45 for a one night stay in the private room of Wayfarers Hostel. It’s comparable to what we expected to pay for a private stay in the U.K.

Location:

Wayfarer’s Inn is just two blocks away from a Morrison’s grocery store. We did a bulk of our shopping there to prep for the Lake District. It was only a 10 minute walk away from the train station and bus stop. This is a great stop for those who are looking for a stopover on their travels to the Lake District.
